We use nitrogen purging during laser welding of the outer shell and base plate of our stainless steel insulated bottles. Introducing nitrogen into the internal space helps reduce weld oxidation and preserve a brighter metallic appearance on the inner surface of the base plate and around the weld.
Laser welding generates intense heat at the joint. When heated stainless steel is exposed to oxygen, discoloration and oxide deposits can develop. Nitrogen displaces air and lowers oxygen levels inside the shell, helping reduce oxidation and darkening on the back of the weld.
For internal areas that are difficult to clean after welding, nitrogen protection helps minimize oxide residue and reduce subsequent cleaning needs. This improves the surface quality of the internal weld and surrounding area.
